Pedal through the city's history, landscapes, and hidden gems.
The first edition of the ScopriAMO Avola by Bike initiative was held in 2023, promoted by our association and carried out in collaboration with other local associations, with the patronage and active support of the municipal administration, which strongly believed in this vision from the beginning, particularly in Mayor Rossana Cannata.
Since that year, the initiative has become a recurring summer event in Avola, combining culture, ecology, sports, and local development. The idea stems from a desire to rediscover Avola with a slow, attentive, and mindful approach, cycling through the city streets and lingering on places often overlooked in the frenetic pace of daily life: small churches, ancient industrial facilities, historic sights, monuments, and forgotten spaces, yet rich in meaning for our identity.
Among the iconic stops: the old train station, the almond museum, the old millstones, the seaside village, the little churches on the outskirts, all the way to the seaside roundabouts and the most evocative views of the city center. Places that, traversed by bicycle or even on foot, take on a new, more human, and authentic value.
The initiative also represents an opportunity to promote sustainable mobility, respect for the environment, and a healthy lifestyle, with a strong educational component, especially aimed at younger generations. Each edition sees the active participation of young people, families, and tourists, in an atmosphere of sharing and belonging.
ScopriAMO Avola in Bici is now a consolidated project, which will continue to grow and be enriched with new routes and content, helping to build a city increasingly aware of its cultural, historical, and landscape value.
South-East Sicily's projects are tools for growth and cohesion, designed to promote the region's resources and engage local communities in a shared and sustainable development journey.
